My Experience as a Medical Office Administration Student

Coming from Africa, my friends thought it was going to be difficult to learn in Canada, so I set my goals and decided to enroll at Academy of Learning College. At first, I thought it was an office and later we would all go onto our various classrooms. Later on, I learned it was a place of perfect learning that helps you to understand everything you need to know. The facilitators are so friendly and they bear with me knowing it was difficult, but I was going to make it. They never discouraged me at all; very encouraging kind of people. They were always there to help with I needed them.

Having pursued this excellent program gave me the knowledge, confidence and helped me to overcome my fears that always held me back has brought a new dimension into my life to achieve a successful career in this country. I was astounded with what I achieved as I went along and you will feel the same if you put the required effort into the program. I strongly recommend the Academy of Learning Career College.

After years of hitting road blocks, it seemed like everything was in the way of my dream of getting a college diploma. I became used to the idea that retail management was it for me, that I would always be stuck in that routine.

After having my daughter and staying home to raise her, I decided that this was my chance to take the jump into a career that meant something to me. I did not want to get stuck back in the retail world, so I did my research to see what my options were. I checked out several colleges and made appointments to find out what possibilities for training and a career there were. AOLCC was the only one that made me feel important and at “home”. Initially, I walked into the Director’s (Dorota) office with uncertainty; however, I came out confident that this was the place for me. The college’s flexibility with attendance hours and its understanding of family life was pretty amazing.

The team at AOLCC is truly remarkable: Tara, Racheal, Hayley, Rob, Cecil, Amanda, Dorota and Michael are like nothing you will ever find at any other college. They go above and beyond to make you feel special and that you can do anything you put your mind to.

I have worked for many family-run businesses and understand the dynamics of what it’s like to work with one. AOLCC was no different in that aspect. I felt like one of the team and that my time mattered.

I had a wonderful experience studying at Kingston’s Academy of Learning Career College. It was challenging going back to school at the age of 54. The instructors made the transition back into college easy and exciting. With that said, the flexible hours allowed me to manage my personal life and my studies with minimal stress. In the classroom, I was able to communicate with other students taking the same course as me. Tips from other classmates were very helpful.

I had to finish my last 3 months of studies online at home due to the COVID 19 virus. The staff at the school made the switch manageable and easy to follow. The Instructors responded to my calls and emails in a timely manner, which made finishing my course go smoothly. I have now successfully graduated with a diploma in Medical Office Administration and am excited about where it will take me.
